Real engagements

What working with Backbone looks like.

Every engagement starts with learning how the business actually runs. What comes after that looks different every time — a system, a hire, a retainer, a website, or some combination.

Jewelry Designer — Back-Office Buildout & Retainer

A New Orleans jewelry designer needed her back office streamlined. We sat in on interviews for her contract bead artists, then built and ran the scheduling and time-tracking systems that kept them on track. We calculated her wholesale pricing, set up Shopify for her wholesale customers, built a customer onboarding flow, and put an invoicing system in place — then took over running that too. We made sure her site was actually crawlable on Google and Bing, and put together her monthly investor reports. Now on a monthly retainer keeping the back office running, so she can stay focused on sales and growing the business.

Business Wind-Down — Data Consolidation & Tech Stack Evaluation

A short-term consulting engagement supporting an owner through a business wind-down. I evaluated more than 20 tools across the tech stack to determine what needed to stay in place for continuity if the owner picked things back up later, and what could be safely sunset, and why. I closed out the engagement with a recorded live walkthrough covering exactly where everything stood, backed by a written summary document the owner could hand to anyone down the line.

Operations build · New Orleans

Transportation Company — Scheduling & Operations System

A New Orleans transportation company was running 40+ trips a week off phone notes and memory. We learned how the day actually ran, then built an internal system to keep scheduling, pricing, and driver information in one place — so the owner could hand off customer calls to someone else for the first time, without worrying about anything falling through the cracks. No website involved — purely back-office and operations.
